Nino the Little Firefighter · The Night of the Big Wind · storm story for kids · learning patience
A bedtime story for children. A big wind picked up over Bellhill at the end of the day, a wind that bangs the shutters, rolls the buckets, and sets the branches dancing. In a single gust, it scatters three little hiccups across the village: laundry blown away in a garden, a market stall knocked over on the square, and above all Bruno's sash, the one that always trails on the ground, now caught right at the top of the flagpole.
The first two hiccups are sorted out quickly, all together, in good spirits. But the sash is right at the top, and the wind keeps blowing in gusts. Bruno looks up at it from below, devastated: it's his festival sash, the one he's worn ever since he became mayor.
The big ladder goes up, but it shakes in the gusts, and Captain Marta stops it right away: you don't climb a ladder in wind like this. Everyone falls silent, and it's Nino who finds the answer, by listening rather than looking. The wind doesn't blow without stopping: between two gusts, there's a lull, a few seconds of perfect calm. All it takes is not rushing, waiting for that lull, and climbing at just that moment.
As the story unfolds, your child learns that patience is sometimes the most effective solution of all, and that waiting for the right moment isn't wasting time. This is also the episode that brings the town and the countryside closer together: Josette comes down from her hillside, and everyone ends up sharing the same table.
The sash comes back down, neatly folded. Pompon, who had been sniffing the ground for a while, sniff, sniff, sniff, suddenly dashes off and finds, in a bush, the last runaway object that no one was looking for anymore. Then, on the square, everyone shares Josette's apples and cheese from the farm, town and countryside all mixed together, like one big family.
Bruno isn't scolded for letting his sash trail on the ground yet again, and the running joke becomes, that evening, the heart of the story. Everyone teases him gently, never unkindly, and they fix things together: this way of laughing with someone instead of at them is the whole spirit of Tilibou bedtime stories. And all the while, the wind slowly dies down, and the flag ends up hanging perfectly still.
A screen-free firefighter story for children from age 3, perfect to enjoy warm and cozy at bedtime, in the car, or before a nap. As always with Tilibou, the ending stays soft and quiet, without music, so your child can drift off to sleep without waking anyone up. 🚒
