A bedtime story for children. Tonight, the fire station leaves town. Up on the hillside, at Josette's farm, the hens are heading in clucking and the old tractor rests near the barn. A little lamb named Curly was still playing outside, chasing one last golden butterfly, when she slipped under the big hedge and got stuck, her wool caught in the branches.

The phone rings very softly at the fire station. Nino, Pompon and Captain Marta head up the hill in Big Red, while Marco stays behind to tidy the garage. Up there, Curly bleats, pulls, struggles, and the more she pulls, the tighter the hedge grips her. Her mother, on the other side, worries and paws at the ground.

They try pulling gently, with two hands, then three: the wool tightens and the lamb cries out. They bring out the big shears to cut the hedge, but it's old, thick, full of nests, and trimming it would take all night. So Nino lies down in the grass, gets right down to the lamb's level, and understands the real problem: Curly isn't trapped by the hedge, she's trapped because she keeps pulling. Pompon comes to press against her, warm and calm, and the lamb finally stops struggling. Only then does the wool come free on its own, strand by strand.

As the story unfolds, your child learns gentleness before force: when you're caught somewhere, struggling only tightens the knot, while breathing loosens it. This is also the collection's first countryside episode, the one that brings Josette the farmer and the sounds of the hillside, crickets and sheep bells, into Bellhill's world.

Curly finds her mother again, and the fire station heads back down with a little fresh cheese offered by Josette. At the fire station, Pompon curls up in his boot, still quite pleased to have served as a cushion. The boots line up from the biggest to the smallest, and the hillside falls asleep beyond the window.

No one blames the lamb for going under the hedge, and no one laughs at her for being scared. They lie down beside her, they wait, they let the calm do the work: this way of reassuring first and fixing things after is the whole spirit of Tilibou bedtime stories. And all the while, outside, the hillside crickets keep up their steady little sound, like a nightlight made of music.
