The sky turns black above the archipelago, and it starts to grumble. Boom. Then boom-boom. Every night the same storm comes back and frightens everybody. But Granny Coquille, the oldest and wisest turtle in the sea, sends Tom the Pirate a reassuring map: go up and take a look, this is no nasty storm.

When the sky goes boom and the sea takes fright, climb up to the giant: he wants to play, not to steal. The Royal Sardine cannot sink, so the crossing turns into a fairground ride: up she goes on the wave, whee, and down the other side, whee. And between claps of thunder, you can even hear somebody laughing up there, inside the big black cloud.

It is Boum-Boum, an enormous giant made of clouds who claps his hands to make the thunder and blows to make the wind, purely for the fun of it. When Tom asks him to stop, everything gets worse: a sad cloud giant cries, and that makes an even bigger storm. You cannot simply order someone to stop playing.

Granny Coquille arrives at her own unhurried pace and whispers the secret: a little one making too much noise usually just wants to be noticed and played with. So Tom invents the cloud game. Instead of clapping, Boum-Boum blows very softly and draws a fish, then an octopus with eight arms. The rain stops, the wind dies down, and the storm becomes a parade of gentle clouds. Boum-Boum offers a small cloud that never melts: the ninth keepsake.

The story to reach for on stormy evenings. Thunder makes a great deal of noise, but it means no harm at all, and that alone can turn a big fright into a cuddle. Your child also picks up something useful for the playground: someone who is very loud is often just asking for company.

A screen-free adventure and bedtime story for children aged 3 to 5, good to share at bedtime, in the car, or before a nap. As always with Tilibou, the ending stays soft and quiet, with no music, so the day can close on a reassured note even when it rumbles outside. 🌙
