Satellite tags on humpback whales : special operation for major scientific advances
The placement of satellite tags on humpback whales is a highly technical process that requires the intervention of experienced specialists. Ms. Amy Kennedy, an American biologist from the National Marine Mammals Laboratory of NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) and an expert in tagging, was part of the MIROMEN field team led by Globice Réunion. In this interview, she talks about this operation which, from August 22 to September 23, 2022, allowed the installation of 11 Argos tags to study the return journey of humpback whales to their feeding grounds in Antarctica.
